Transition
Moving classes through school can sometimes be an anxious time for some children. The information below can help support transition and make moving classes a more positive experience for our children.
St John Fisher Catholic College Transition
At St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, we are proud of our close and highly valued partnership with St John Fisher Catholic College, our local Catholic feeder high school. Grounded in our shared Catholic Christian faith, high expectations and a commitment to the formation of the whole child, this partnership ensures that pupils experience a well-supported, purposeful and positive transition to secondary education. Our staff regularly support one another with the sharing of good practice, expertise and curriculum to ensure that the knowledge learned in primary school is developed and extended at high school.
We work closely with St John Fisher to ensure our children regularly visit the high school and that the high school staff regularly attend events in our primary school. In doing this, we foster that sense of belonging and inclusivity based on our shared St Gabriel the Archangel Trust characteristics.
Staff regularly work with our pupils such as supporting them in their sacramental preparation for their First Holy Communion and Confirmation as well as supporting them with their academic subjects, including PE.
Leadership links further enhance the strength of this partnership. The Headteacher of St John Fisher, Mr. Murray, the Deputy Headteacher Ms. Rogers, and the Head of Year 7, Mrs. Rundle regularly visit our primary school spending time in every class and developing positive relationships with pupils across the school. In turn, our Headteacher, Mr. Price, is warmly welcomed to St John Fisher each term to join year group Masses and to visit former pupils, celebrating their continued progress and success.
As inclusive Catholic schools, we share a clear and ambitious vision: to nurture confident, compassionate and aspirational young people who live out Gospel values and are well prepared to thrive in the next phase of their education. We are proud of our partnership with St John Fisher Catholic College and remain committed to continuing to strengthen these links for the benefit of our pupils and families.
